Shawn Conlin's Bio
Shawn Conlin is a multi-faceted information technology professional. During the course of his career, he has held positions in many areas of IT including: PC repair, help desk technician (hardware and software), system administrator, and software developer. For the last 10 years, Shawn has focused on his skills as a developer. He worked primarily with the Lotus Notes/Domino environment, developing applications with LotusScript and other proprietary tools. While this was his primary focus, Shawn also spent time learning web technologies to expand his knowledge. Most of his web-based development outside of Domino has been created using HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
Shawn is in the process of completing his Bachelor of Science degree. He began this pursuit in 1990 at the University of Rhode Island, but was unable to complete it at that time. After a 17-year hiatus, Shawn is now a first-term student at Kaplan University majoring in Information Technology with an emphasis on programming.
After graduation, Shawn plans to continue his career as a software developer. While he will still be within the same general field, he intends to focus his efforts on web development rather than continuing within the Lotus Notes/Domino niche. Shawn is considering restarting his web design business as a full-time pursuit, providing services for customers both local and international.
Shawn's hobbies and interests are more varied than his IT skills, encompassing such topics as making mead, wine, and cordials, leathercraft, carpentry, and studying medieval European history and games. Through his interest in history, he has spent many years doing medieval re-enactment with a group that holds events for members as well as provides educational demonstratations for schools and local community groups. Shawn is also working on completing two books. The first has been a work in progress for about 15 years: a collection of instructions for games dating from Roman times through the middle ages. The second book is an informational guide on the history and process of making mead.
